Science Discovery Lab Activities

Pull up a stool at the Discovery Lab for some great scientific investigations.

The Lab is located on the second floor and all activities and investigations are led by Museum staff and volunteer Explainers. Free with Museum admission.

Each investigation is between 15 and 30 minutes and provides children and families opportunities to explore science while having fun and working directly with Museum staff and volunteers.

Three different levels of activities allow Museum staff to design age-appropriate programs.

  • Young Scientist Activity—for preschoolers’ and their families.
  • Family Science Program—designed for visitors of all ages. Activities encourage family involvement and interaction.
  • Lab Coat Investigation—for ages 9 and above. Activities are more sophisticated, often using specialized tools and equipment such as compound microscopes. (Lab Coat Investigations are not appropriate for our younger audience.)

Lab Coat Investigations are made possible with support from the Hypertherm HOPE Foundation.
